The Severe Winter Is Coming. Are Your Laser Projectors Working Well?

Most of China has come into the coldest time of the year. With the cold air coming, the temperature of film projection rooms has become very friendly and even the probability of projection equipment failure has also decreased. Even so, the projectionists should be careful and do routine maintenance work properly to avoid accidents and prepare for the busiest New Year movie season.

In recent years, most cinemas have transformed and upgraded the equipment and realized laser projection. Meanwhile, projectionists have also enjoyed the convenience of TMS automatic projection.

How to maintain laser light sources regularly?CINEAPPO will share with you some tips fordaily maintenance of equipment in winter.


Maintain Room Temperature

In northwestern China in winter, due to the altitude and temperature, cinema projectionists may encounter equipment errors if they directly turn on the equipment immediately after they arrive at the projection room. These problems are common. In the morning, the equipment may start self-protection in a low temperature. For example, DMD errors may occur due to low temperature (5282, 5292, 5302, 5342, etc.).

How to solve these problems: Projectionists are advised to turn on circulating equipment such as air conditioners upon arrival at the projection room in the morning to keep the room temperature above 10 °C, then turn on the projection equipment to ensure the normal running.

Tips for projection rooms with air conditioning heater system in the winter: During operation, the room temperature should be kept at around 10-35℃ (ideally 20-26℃) to create the best environment; air cleanliness should meet cleanroom standards; air humidity should be kept at around 5%~85% without moisture condensation. During the non-operating period, the room temperature should be kept at around -15~60℃; air cleanliness should be kept at the same level with the operation period; air humidity should be kept at around 5%~95% without moisture condensation.


Eliminate Static Electricity

When winter comes to the north of China, the indoor environment is relatively dry, which may lead to one of the greatest threats to projection equipment - static electricity. Static electricity is unavoidable in industrial production. Its hazards can be caused from two mechanisms.


ESD Hazards

(1) ESD causes electronic equipment to fail or malfunction, leading to electromagnetic interference.

(2) ESD breaks down integrated circuits and precision electronic components or causes components to age.

(3) Paper-making and printing industry: ESA may cause uneven paper winding, inaccurate overprinting, high-level absorption of dust, and paper sticking, which may affect production.

(4) Textile industry: ESA may cause floating silk, broken patterns and entangled yarns, etc.


ESA Hazards

(1) Electronics industry: Absorption of dust may contaminate integrated circuits and semiconductor components and damage electronic equipment.

(2) Film and plastics industry: ESA may cause films to wind unevenly; films and CD plastic disks may be contaminated with dust, which affects the quality.

(3) Paper-making and printing industry: ESA may cause uneven paper winding, inaccurate overprinting, high-level absorption of dust, and paper sticking, which may affect production.

(4) Textile industry: ESA may cause floating silk, broken patterns and entangled yarns, etc.

Common failures in cinemas caused by static electricity:

(1) Static electricity may cause damage to boards, such as ICP boards of projection equipment and cinema control boards.

(2) Server errors may occur, such as lag, dropped frames, crashes, etc.

(3) Laser time service daughter board time falls to zero.

Common methods for eliminating static electricity:


(1) Antistatic bracelet: Projectionists should wear antistatic bracelets when removing dust from projectors in winter.


(2) Industrial static electricity eliminators: Cinemas may install static electricity eliminators at the door of the projection room if possible.


(3) Increase humidity: Install humidifiers to increase ambient humidity to an appropriate range (5-75%)


In addition, projectionists should "discharge" before entering the projection room. They should eliminate static electricity before turning on the projection equipment. There are other methods to eliminate static electricity. For example, they can wear antistatic gloves, or touch grounded casings such as metal casings before touching electronic equipment.
